Review of BMW Latest Creation - i8

The wait is finally over. BMW’s latest creation, i8, has arrived; and how! It is being hailed as one of the most impressive cars of all time. Some say it looks even better in real life than in the photographs or on TV advertisements. The BMW i8 looks like a motor show concept and is definitely the car you’d want to buy as soon as possible!

BMW i8’s USP is undoubtedly the butterfly doors that open upwards like any Lamborghini or McLaren. Currently available at $100k, it is the best super-car bargain anyone can get at this point of time. It generates an effortless horsepower of 360 just like any Porsche 911. BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid and can smoothly cover over 20 miles on battery power alone. Needless to say, it is fuel-efficient.

The German creation is equipped with a 1.5 L, three-cylinder engine and a strong electric motor whose batteries can be charged up at home or at the roadside, whatever you find convenient. The petrol engine is similar to that of Minis and is turbocharged to 231 HP. The basics of the car are made up of a hybrid aluminium, thermoplastic and carbon fibre structure.

The BMW i8 is fast and produces more engine sound than any muscle car. It's like a proper sports-car despite a tough competition given by Porsche 911. The maximum speed of a BMW i8 is 155 mph. It reaches a speed of 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds. This car also has electronic, multi-mode adaptive dampers.

In addition to this, BMW has also taken care of the car's weight as wherever batteries are involved, the weight becomes an issue. And so, it weights only 1,560 kgs which is fairly modest for a sports-car.

The BMW i8 has an aluminium chassis with a carbon composite passenger compartment attached to it. Therefore, the chassis is strong and safe. But surprisingly, the car has small rear seats because the engine and the boot are fitted behind the seats. The car also has sufficient luggage space. This makes the BMW i8 a more practical vehicle than an Audi R8 which is available at a similar price. BMW i8 is very comfortable and has nice, shapely seats.

The most impressive feature of this car is that it is available in three basic driving modes that ranges from pure-electronic mode, standard to Sport mode which is available with an additional EcoPro mode for more efficiency.

If you start the car, then you are in standard mode. If you move the gear to the left, you are in Sport mode. And if you press separate buttons on the centre console to enable pure-electric or EcoPro.

The i8 is a quality sports-car running on batteries where the material with which it is build has not been compromised with. The design of the body is gorgeous. It's technologically advanced and every car lover's dream. It definitely looks like a car from the future and thus, is very much here to stay.
